The South Carolina Green Party is proud to endorse Dr. Jill Stein for President of the United States. Dr. Jill Stein is a mother, physician, longtime teacher of internal medicine, and pioneering environmental-health advocate.

She is the co-author of two widely-praised reports, In Harm’s Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development, published in 2000, and Environmental Threats to Healthy Aging, published in 2009. The first of these has been translated into four languages and is used worldwide. The reports promote green local economies, sustainable agriculture, clean power, and freedom from toxic threats.
In 2002 ADD activists in the Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party approached Dr. Stein and asked her to run for Governor of Massachusetts. Dr. Stein accepted, and began her first foray into electoral politics. She was widely credited with being the best informed and most credible candidate in the race.

She has twice been elected to town meeting in Lexington, Massachusetts. She is the founder and past co-chair of a local recycling committee appointed by the Lexington Board of Selectmen.

In 2003, Jill co-founded the Massachusetts Coalition for Healthy Communities, a non-profit organization that addresses a variety of issues that are important to the health and well-being of Massachusetts communities, including health care, local green economies, and grassroots democracy.

Jill represented the Green-Rainbow Party in two additional races – one for State Representative in 2004 and one for Secretary of State in 2006. In 2006 she won the votes of over 350,000 Massachusetts citizens – which represented the greatest vote total ever for a Green-Rainbow candidate.

In 2008, Jill helped formulate a “Secure Green Future” ballot initiative that called upon legislators to accelerate efforts to move the Massachusetts economy to renewable energy and make development of green jobs a priority. The measure won over 81 per cent of the vote in the 11 districts in which it was on the ballot.

Stein proposes a Green New Deal for the US, which would create a sustainable economy, a peaceful foreign policy, and an environmentally sound future.

Jeff Sumerel for US House District 4

Jeff Sumerel is a Greenville artist.  Jeff seeks to engage Spartanburg and Greenville counties directly in Congressional votes. Voters will vote online, via the secure http://liquidfeedback.org/ application, on all questions before Congress. Jeff will vote exactly as the people of the Greenville and Spartanburg counties instruct him to vote. An explanation of how the system will work is here.

What is the purpose of a campaign based on direct democracy?

• To explore the possibilities and potential of implementing the purest form of representation for the people of the 4th District of South Carolina.
• To test the theory of pure democracy, by executing a plan and stance that in part, will offer the first political candidate in U.S. history who will express no opinion during the election, and if elected, during his entire term in Congress. Honestly.
• To activate and offer to the public an online “voting” system that would be a key component of the representative’s operation to test the theory of pure democracy. In short, this system will allow every matter brought to vote in Congress to be determined by the majority of those in the 4th District.
• To provide the public with a new perspective and choice in the electoral process.

As the voting representative of District 4, Jeff has no need for, and will not accept any campaign contributions.

Nammu Muhammed for South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District

Nammu Muhammad is a life-long resident of the threatened Waverly community in Columbia. An electrician, Nammu has worked against gentrification and the displacement of longstanding communities by a business driven and unaccountable development program. Together with other residents, Nammu organized and helps to operate a community meeting place at 2523 Read Street in Waverly. Nammu was a candidate for mayor of Columbia in 2010.

Scott West for South Carolina State Senate District 20

For South Carolina Senate District 20 (Richland/Lexington): Scott West

Scott West, Scott West wants to represent the true aspirations of the people in Senate District 20. Other candidates represent one or the other strand of machine party politics. South Carolinians can create a new kind of politics by organizing around policies they support, and electing officials who will defend those positions in the South Carolina Legislature.

Scott is a native of Spartanburg, SC and spent most of his childhood in Laurens County. After relocating to the Isle of Palms and graduating from Wando High School, he earned a B.A. in History, with minors in Latin and Art History at the College of Charleston.

For many years he lived in New York City, working in the publishing industry and as a labor organizer with the Communication Workers of America. After returning to Spartanburg, he relocated to Columbia to work as office manager for the Tom Clements for Senate campaign in 2010.

Joseph Martin Joseph Martin is a married father of two. Born and raised in Ohio, he and his family moved to the Upstate of South Carolina in the summer of 2009. He is a production associate at BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg.

Joseph became a supporter of the Green Party in 2000 while attending Wright State University. He recognized that the two-party system was stifling the progression of democracy in this country.
